Rumor Mill: Verizon Wireless Set to Charge for Data Plans On All 3G Devices

Rumors

This is a quick one, as there isn’t much information to go on here, save for a couple of tips that have begun to make their way around the internet. While we are still waiting to hear back from our sources on whether or not this is really going on, at this exact moment it doesn’t look like Verizon Wireless is going to be winning any awards for smartest decisions, any time soon. After the whole $350 Early Termination Fee debacle that happened, this next step in working against the customer base is just ridiculous.

The way we’re seeing it, is that Verizon Wireless is all set to start charging its customers that own 3G devices for mandated data plans. Now, first and foremost, this may not include everyone that has a 3G device, and by that we mean anyone who has purchased a 3G device before January 18th, which is apparently the start-up date for this little fiasco. There’s a break down of prices, as Boy Genius Report hears from its ninja that for $9.99, you’ll get 25MB of data usage. Follow the ladder up, and you’ve got $29.99 for unlimited data usage.

Now, we don’t mean to start a fire here or anything, but if this really is the case, then maybe Verizon Wireless is indeed gearing up to start selling a new phone here in the coming months. And instead of making a plan to fit this particular device, they’re changing the whole scale to make room for it. Sure, that’s casting a pretty wide net to cast, which includes a lot of people who don’t want or need to be included, but maybe this is just the way Big Red handles things. We’ll be sure to keep our ears open, and as soon as we hear anything, we’ll be sure to post an update.

Thanks for writing about this. There’s a heap of solid tech info on the internet. You’ve got a lot of that info here on your site. I’m impressed – I try to keep a couple blogs reasonably current, but it’s a struggle sometimes. You’ve done a solid job with this one. How do you do it?
