News

At this point in time, everyone knows that the news coming out about Apple’s upcoming plans are rumors. Even as we hear executives openly admit that Apple’s tablet exists, and then in the same day recant those statements, it doesn’t matter. It’s still just a rumor. It’s all rumors, until Steve Jobs or whoever it may be at Apple comes out on a stage, and unveils the next big thing out of Cupertino. With that being said, we have here what looks to be the best iPhone rumor to date.

In South Korea, the wireless carrier KT is solely responsible for the iPhone’s launch, and this is where this news is coming from. According to The Korea Times, a “high-ranking” executive at KT remarked that the next-gen iPhone would have a dual-core processing set up, along with an OLED screen, video chat capabilities, and even a removable battery. There was also talk that the new iPhone would feature better graphics capabilities, and a superior camera. Hopefully that last bit about the superior camera means it’s superior to the market average, and not the iPhone 3GS’ camera, which wouldn’t take much to surpass.

The most important part of this news, beyond the idea of an OLED display on an iPhone, is that dual-core processor. If it does turn out to be true, it is almost certain that Apple will be utilizing the new Cortex-A9 design from ARM, which is more than capable of breaking the 2GHz mark. Considering that the 1GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm is beginning to see the light of day more and more, it makes sense that Apple would want to go ahead and leap over the competition by a wide margin, and that’s a great way to do it. According to the KT executive, the new iPhone would be announced in April, with a time slot of availability later in June, which coincides with every iPhone launch in the past. We don’t have long to wait for Apple’s upcoming January announcement, but considering the load of rumors out there regarding upcoming hardware from the behemoth company, we may still be surprised as to what gets officially announced.

The processor chip is branded as just a bit newer design number but it and the GPU are likely the same pace as the 3GS. The old Contact using the same Processor and GPU since the 3G was quicker. Besides having the clock speed turned up higher the Contact has less software to run since it is not a telephone. It ought to defeat any iPhone to this day in performance.
