One of the greatest things about owning a phone in this current generation, is the simple fact that Over the Air (OTA) updates are a thing of the now, and we love them. It just makes things easy. We don’t need to go anywhere to update our phones, and we get cool features without having to lift a finger (other than the prerequisite movements to actually download the update). Apparently, Sprint doesn’t mind having you get out of your house for a quick visit to their store.
The Samsung Moment, an Android powered device for Sprint, has officially received a maintenance update. Oh, you didn’t notice it? That’s because it’s not pushed to your device. With this update, Sprint needs you to come into one of their brick-and-mortar establishments, probably wait in line (are there lines at Sprint stores anymore?), and then have someone update your phone for you. And no, don’t expect Android 2.1, or Android 2.0. This is just a quick bug fix. Here’s what the update is meant to address:
- General improvement to battery life
- Alteration to Emergency Call on lock screen
- Updates to NFL, Nascar, Sprint TV, and Visual Voicemail applications
- Network Assistance for GPS to aide in indoor location
- Hard Reset now available in recovery mode: remove and then reinsert the battery; press volume down, send and end keys at the same time, until reboot option appears; follow on screen instructions for desired next step.
As a little side note, Sprint is suggesting to customers that an OTA update will be available for the Moment some time in the near future. While that’s all well and dandy, we’d prefer to have it right from the start. So if you can wait an undetermined amount of time for your update, and you don’t feel like going into a Sprint Store, there’s an option for you. Of course, the Moment’s battery life isn’t the greatest, so if this update really does help things, maybe it’s worth going in.

Hey I just wanted to let you know, I actually like the writing on your website. But I am employing Firefox on a machine running version 9.10 of Ubuntu and the design aren’t quite satisfying. Not a big deal, I can still fundamentally read the articles and research for info, but just wanted to inform you about that. The navigation bar is kind of challenging to apply with the config I’m running. Keep up the great work!
