News, Rumors

There’s a lot of scuttlebutt going around considering Windows Mobile. Everyone is tired of using Windows Mobile 6.5 already, and they want to see what Microsoft has up their sleeve. Not only that, but they’re all hoping that Windows Mobile 7 dredges up the goodness that Windows Mobile surely hides within.

So, we’ve got conflicting reports regarding the debut of Windows Mobile 7. We heard that it won’t be until 2011, but there still seems to be a firm, almost resolute opinion that it will show up at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The latter rumor would be consistent with what we’ve been hearing about the release of phones, from manufacturers like LG, and HTC. The Obsession was leaked last week, and now it seems like it’s getting a name change. Supposedly now known as the Diamond3, it’s meant to bring Windows Mobile 7 to people on AT&T and T-Mobile here in the States before the end of this year. In fact, tipsters over at WM Power Users had the phone pegged to release in June, but delays have inevitably stricken that mark off the calendar.

So at this point, we’ve got word from supposed Microsoft insiders that Windows Mobile 7 has been put on hold until next year, and that even the barest of official notes regarding the OS will be held off until next year. On the other side of the coin, we’ve got the manufacturers of the phones themselves toting that WM7 is just about ready to go, and will be officially released within the year. And real quick, here’s why you might want to care about the Diamond3: 3.7″ capacitive, AMOLED touchscreen; 5MP camera with auto-focus and flash, HD 720p video at 25 FPS; and the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor.
