Leak, Mobile, News, Rumors

Considering how fast things get passed around on the Internet, we’re surprised that it took this long before anyone got a chance to see what the myTouch Slide would look like. When it was first rumored to exist last week, we half expected to see shots of the device the same day. But alas, we had to wait a bit longer, and while we realize it may not be the flashiest handset to get released this year, it doesn’t look half bad, either.

First and foremost, it should be noted that while the majority of Android devices available today are obviously set in the smartphone category of phones, this is not one of them. T-Mobile USA and HTC are obviously crafting an entry-level Android phone, and considering how large the SideKick family of fans was (or still is), this may be the perfect way to get a whole new wave of Android fans through the gate. Just by looking at the myTouch Slide, you can see that this is primed for the teenage crowd, right where the SideKick line of phones left off. Will we see a new line of myTouch-based devices in the near future? We don’t see why not. But, there could be better phones to make an Android line of phones.

Should you be excited about this thing at all? That’s entirely up to you. While we’d love to say that T-Mobile and HTC have officially announced the myTouch Slide, we simply can’t. With that in mind, even with these pictures in hand, we still have to tack this one up as a rumor. Especially considering that the specifications for the device are still rumored, with nothing confirmed. While there are some potential things to be excited about, like the ARM11 processor and optical trackpad with embedded button, there are other things that we simply wish were better: 320×480 screen resolution and 1300 mAHr battery. Sure, the latter isn’t that bad, and will probably sustain this device just great, but we just want better. Battery life is hugely important. And, just like the specs, the launch date is rumored as well. May 17 may be a good day for some people out there. Will you be one of them?
