With the World Cup only months away, Ubisoft has announced an upcoming soccer, I mean football, title to be released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC. Unlike real football where the game is played with two teams of 11, Pure Football will feature 5 vs. 5 gameplay where the player will be able to do basically anything they want since there won’t be refs.
From the screens that have been released, the graphics look decent, but the character models are a bit strange, featuring players with strangely elongated limbs and very small heads. Normally that’d be a bit of a turn off, but with the current soccer game market being run by FIFA, Ubisoft needs to do something a bit different.
There will be difficulties with Ubisoft competing against mainly FIFA, because most die hard soccer fans want to play a realistic representation of their beloved sport. Then again, NFL Street and NBA Street sold pretty well for being more violent, over the top showings of their respective sports. The game will feature 4 player local multiplayer and is expected to be released in May
